Financial Assistance
Part of the Keys School mission is to maintain a diverse and stimulating student body. One way we can do that is by providing financial assistance. This year, Keys budgeted $405,404 for 2009–2010 in aid. Any family can apply for financial assistance. The grants are intended for anyone with a need, small or large, to the extent that Keys can meet the need. Keys uses the data from Student Services for Financial Aid, along with the school's financial assistance budget, and information regarding any other extraordinary circumstances, to make aid awards. The amount of assistance granted varies depending on financial circumstances. All financial assistance applications and family financial information is confidential. Applying for financial assistance in no way impacts admission decisions.
FAQs About Financial Assistance
Does Keys School grant financial assistance?
Keys School does have a financial assistance program. It is funded from the general operating budget with money allocated each year.
Why does the School have a financial assistance program?
The School's financial assistance is designed to promote socio-economic diversity. Part of the Keys mission is to have a diverse climate and this is one way we can ensure a diverse and stimulating student body. This aid is also designed to support families who may be going through temporary economic dislocation. Keys School wants to retain present families by offering assistance as financial needs change.
Who can apply for financial assistance?
Any parent can apply for financial assistance, whether new to the school or a veteran at Keys. Parents may apply for assistance even if they have not applied before. Financial assistance is granted in order with present families receiving assistance first followed by those who are new enrollees. Some parents assume that assistance is given only to those in the most dire circumstances and do not bother applying. The grants are intended for anyone with a need, small or large, to the extent that Keys can meet the need.
How much money will I get from financial assistance?
The amount of assistance granted varies depending on financial circumstance. The amount given can be as little as a few hundred dollars to a major part of the school's annual tuition. The Keys system is based on financial need and the availability of funds within the budget.
How do I apply for financial assistance?
Keys uses the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) program with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), an independent national organization that receives the applicant's financial information and estimates family's resources. SSS suggests an amount of money that a family would be able to pay. The Keys financial assistance committee uses this information and any other information from the family to help make a decision regarding assistance. To apply go to School and Student Services by NAIS.
What are the deadlines for financial assistance?
We ask that application for assistance be made by January 30. Please call the Business Director, Courtney Laird, if you would like to apply. Application means completing the Parents Financial Statement online. A copy of your 2008 1040 tax forms and supporting documents should be submitted directly to SSS by January 30. Your 2009 return needs to be submitted by April 15. The financial assistance committee makes determination of awards in time for the reenrollment contracts in early February. If you believe that assistance may be necessary, but you cannot meet the deadlines, please call the Business Director, Courtney Laird.
Can I be assured that my assistance application is treated privately?
All financial assistance applications, including family financial information, are confidential. The names of people who receive assistance are also confidential. The Keys' Business Director and Head of School are the only individuals who have access to financial assistance information.
