Chess Club

Know Chess! brings chess to schools throughout the Bay Area weekly. Chess teaches critical and abstract thinking, planning, logic, and patience. These chess classes are suited for any student interested in chess, from utter beginner to the more advanced student. They review basic chess rules, and then proceed to chess notation, basic tactics, and tournament rules. A typical class will include 30 min of instruction and 30 min of games. The club is open to all ages. The cost for a 14 week session is $168. The fee includes weekly instruction, tournament games, prizes and insurance. Financial Scholarships are available! This club meets on Monday afternoons from 3:15 - 4:15. The second session of Chess club will begin on January 28th.

Science Club

Science Adventures offers 5 different 5 week classes throughout the year. A student can sign up for one or all of the classes. The topics range from Secret Formulas to Wright Flight. This is a popular program at Keys School. The goal of the club is to "get children truly excited about science." Many children enjoy the hands-on approach to science. Children leave each class with fun materials and experiments they can try at home. Each class is an hour long and is open to children grades K-6. The cost of each 5 week session is $85. Fencing Club

Fencing is brought to Keys by the Elite Musketeer Fencer's Club. The coaches have held top coaching positions with the US National Foil Team, Canadian National Team, Israeli National Team, produced several World Champions and have been awarded Top Fencing Coaching Awards by the United States Fencing Association. Fencing is available to 3rd-8th graders. Fencing is open to students of all ability levels. This club meets on Monday afternoons from 3:30-5:00 PM. The cost is $175 (plus an optional $35 for a personal mask). This year the club will begin on October 29th.

Math Club

Math Club is a non-fee based school club offered by our middle school math teacher. It meets once a week, (usually on Mondays) for one hour after school. There are two math clubs offered throughout the year:

7th/8th grade math club meets September through the end of January, and prepares students for the county MathCounts competition in early February. It is lively, with individual and team problem-solving.

5th/6th grade math club meets from February through the end of May. It includes games, puzzles and problem solving.

Spanish Club and Mandarin Club

Berlitz offers two language programs at Keys School, Spanish and Mandarin. The clubs are 90 minutes long, once a week and are available to K-5th graders. The cost of the program is $499 for 30 sessions (this includes all materials). There is a sibling discount for $50 of the cost of tuition. Parent volunteers can also receive 50% off the tuition. Mandarin Club is held Tuesday afternoons from 3:15-4:45 pm. Spanish club is held Thursday afternoons from 3:15-4:45 pm. Both clubs begin the week of September 24th. Hindi Club

Hindi Club is offered through HindiforUS, in association with the US Hindi Association (USHA). The program is designed specially for children in the US, will be taught utilizing the “eduHindiTM” tested methodology/curriculum, developed over the course of last 6 years and has been used by over 1000 students in the bay area. The class is a Level 1-2 Combined class, open to Kindergarten- 4th grade students. The class will introduce the alphabet, build vocabulary and emphasize conversational Hindi. Games, puzzles and other interactive tools will be used to make it fun. The club meets on Tuesday afternoons for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Aerobics and Cardio Training Club

Want to have some fun exercising? Come join Erica Lindley every week for a fun filled hour of exercise and dance. In this class we will take common everyday exercise moves, add music, break a sweat and have fun while doing it! We will combine yoga, dance, art and exercise to create a workout that is not only effective but fun to get through! Erica has taught this class at the East Palo Alto YMCA for over a year and is now looking forward to opening it up to Keys Students. The class will be available to grades K-4. It will be held once a week from 3:30 pm- 4:30 pm. The class will either be offered on Wednesday or Friday afternoons. Parents registering for the class need to choose their favorite day of the week. The class will be held on the most popular day. The class begins the week of Feb 6th and goes through April. There is a $120 materials use fee. The deadline for registration is January 28th. Homework Club

In need of a little extra assistance with your homework? If so, take advantage of the new Homework Club at Keys School. The club is open to all grades and is designed to offer additional assistance to students on the completion of their homework.

The club will meet every Monday and Thursday afternoon for one hour from 3:30-4:30 PM. The club will be administered by Ms. Shields and Ms. Stern and will meet in the 5th grade classroom.

Students attending in the club just need to sign into After School. Parents will then sign them out of After School when they pick them up.There will be no additional fees beyond those of After School.
