Students enter Keys with various levels of Spanish knowledge and experience. Maintaining our developmental approach, we adapt our program to meet the needs of all learners. The goal of our lower-school Spanish program is to teach students basic language skills using theme-related units and cultural activities. In class, students learn vocabulary through a variety of activities such as hands-on projects, role-playing, games, and storytelling. By the fourth grade, students begin to develop their writing skills along with strengthening their Spanish speaking and listening skills. In middle school, the study is intensified with the introduction of new vocabulary and grammar concepts. Students move through a progression of activities that lead them to knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.
